Can You Bring Batteries on a Plane? (TSA Rules)

What can travel in your pocket, what must be in checked baggage, and what is prohibited.

Alkaline AA/AAA/C/D and 9V cells are fine in cabin or checked baggage. Lithium metal coin cells (CR2032 etc., <= 2g lithium) are allowed in cabin — keep them in their retail packaging to avoid short circuits.

Spare lithium-ion batteries (power banks, vape cells) must be in carry-on baggage and individually protected. Damaged or swollen cells are prohibited.

For shipments: international air transport of lithium cells requires UN38.3 testing and transport certification documents — a standard part of our export service for OEM customers.
