How to Replace a Watch Battery

A simple 5-minute job for most watches. You will need a small screwdriver or case knife, tweezers and a new cell.

1. Open the case back: remove screws or pry the friction-fit back with a case knife.
2. Remove the old cell, note the model, and check the polarity before inserting.
3. Insert the new cell with the correct side facing up — do not touch the surfaces with bare fingers.
4. Refit the case back and press the crown/gasket to restore water resistance.

How Often Should a Watch Battery Be Replaced?

Quartz watches typically run 1–3 years per cell. Storage life is 3–5 years: keep spares in a cool, dry place and never mix old and new cells.
